Default E-M5 Infrared

Used a Hoya R72 filter. It ended up being about a 50 second exposure at about f11. I then had plenty of work to do in LR4 after converting the RAW to DNG.

Thanked by Amin Sabet, Sammyboy, CarlB and 1 others.

These are some really cool photos, but why such long exposures? Vegetation is extremely reflective in the NIR, so shouldn't a good exposure be much shorter than even for visible?

Curious,
Acer

Long exposures are needed to overcome the filter that's over the camera sensor. Cameras with modified sensors can use more normal like exposures.

Oh, so these are unmodded cameras??? If so, that's fantastic! I study photogrammetry, and we're always talking about the NIR in relation to vegetation. It'd be awesome to be able to take some pictures that demonstrate what we're learning.

Cautiously ecstatic,
Acer

Interesting. I've done a few IR test shots but was using 10seconds or so at maybe f8 or so in typical daylight. I'll try a long exposure next time. Worried about my noisy G1/Ep1 sensor though.
