Default Icon and Luckypenguin - Brisvegas Showdown...

On saturday I tripped across to the big smoke in my Little blue BMW and visited Luckypenguin for the first time. It was super great to meet up with a forum member and see him in person rather than just an avatar. (I even got to see his cat in real life)

We had our camera paraphernalia spread all over the coffee table, lenses, cameras along with the cat who appeared to need lots of attention. I wish I took a picture of our photographer heaven. Nic showed me a few tricks on his OM-D and I learnt about the intriguing multi aspect ratio sensor of the GH1. He showed me his collection of old cameras including an old OM and Pen. Another interesting invention I had never heard of before were these cameras that took twice as many pictures on a roll of film. For me it was my first exposure to half frame cameras. (pardon the pun) Clever idea I reckon.

We grabbed our OM-D's and I we shot off on the train to Brisbane's CBD. I had Nic's 25mm and he my 7-14. We traipsed around and I had a great time experiencing a bit of the city scapes I don't' often see. We stopped in at a church and had a quick look around and grabbed a few shots. For me the highlight of the church was a massively stretched hummer parked out the front.

I fell in love with the 25mm and have nearly decided to sell my 20 to fund the new younger sister...

Along the track we bumped into a billboard with a guy sporting his OM-D and I stood in front of the sign and tried to replicate the picture. He had one up on us because he had the grip tho.

Our legs then took us to the queen street mall (i think) and I tried my hand at doing some street and I fancied myself as Mr Streetshooter. I'm not sure how I went but It was a fun experience. I laughed when I was going through some of my stealth pictures and feeling proud of my stealth until i came to a shot showcasing a bunch of girls, and one of them was waving at me.

here's some of my shots from the day....Nic make sure you add some of yours as well

Ah damn, I guess this means I better get around to processing some images. I think Brady covered all of the important bits about the day, especially the part about the cat of course.

It was great to meet up with the famous icon himself and chat about all things photography and much else besides. Unfortunately the opportunity was missed to photograph the coffee table full of camera gear. One of the cameras present was Brady's GX1, which at one point was a model that I was considering before I eventually decided to go with the E-M5. I brought it along with us for a chance to try it out (with the 14mm mounted). I really liked the GX1; it's a nice, unassuming but very capable camera. It's certainly still a camera that I would consider. The sensor is clearly not the same as the E-M5; still very good in a different way. My first impression upon importing the files into Lightroom is that this is a natural b&w camera. A few pics below from the GX1/14mm combination. These days I'm a bit out of practice with the 14mm focal length after spending a lot of time with the 25mm lens mounted. Everything looks too far away, lol.

While I'm at it I'll add a few pics our intrepid adventurer from the out-of-town. These are all from the E-M5.

Icon nicked my 25mm for most of the day, so I took his 7-14mm.

We still managed to switch lenses a few times, though. This was obviously NOT taken with the 7-14mm!

That's right, we went there.

I think D&G just found their new model...

...but icon preferred the old one.

Thanks! There's been some GX1 bodies that have been tempting me on eBay since before I bought the E-M5. I think I like the silver best.
