Vancouver's Skyline by Sunset (+Big Pano Stitches)
Got lucky with some warm winter light. Further warmed up with some LR tweaks. All shot with a G5. The composite shots were stitched by the awesome Microsoft ICE program. Finally got to use my cheapo 20$ tripod and wired shutter release haha.
Comments and criticism always much appreciated.
More shots (and full sized images) from the set can be found here: Vancouver Skyline - a set on Flickr
Thanks,

The under-rated 9-18mm. My most used lens.

IIRC, 6 shot stitch with 40-150mm. Had to do a bit of smoothing via photoshop where the water didn't transition well. Funny how the cargo ship blends into the skyline.

A slightly different perspective.

7.5mm Rokinon Fisheye. Can work well for landscapes!

The lighting in these photos are awesome , but my favorite is the panoramic shot you posted in the " Share your giant panoramas!" thread!
If you don't mind a little criticism, I'd prefer cropping out a bit of the blown-out sky in the first shot above...

The criticism is very helpful, thanks! Hey everyone likes praise, but it doesn't help you grow as a photographer.
Oops, I probably should have done more highlight recovery..didn't move the slider at all. Kinda wish I shot RAW instead of jpeg, but in all honesty I didn't think I had any keepers from the day..wasn't expecting good results. Gotta get into the habit of shooting RAW+jpeg. Here is a new, wider crop and better exposed sky (v2):

This is exactly what I had in mind! IMHO, I find the texture and the pattern on the walkway much more interesting in this shot than the upper part of the sky, and it makes a great lead up to the people way down the path...

Yep, looking at the 2 options with fresh eyes after sleeping on it..I agree, the shot benefits from the tighter crop, reducing the empty skies. Being able to recover some more details and colour from it is just a bonus. And as you mentioned, it does help bring focus to the people down the path. I was going to try printing this large maybe at 16x20 (was curious how the files from the 16 megapixel sensor would hold up), maybe a wider crop for 13x19 makes more sense now...

Nice skyline Phrenic. Can you tell me which area of Vancouver is this taken from? I would love to visit there.

Very cool photos! Love them! I also took a few photos with the sweep panorama on the Fuji X10 from the Lonsdale Quay boardwalk. Beautiful place for photos!

Yep, Armanius got it, Lonsdale area in North Vancouver. I grew up in North Van, but only got into photography recently..probably missed lots of opportunities there over the years.

Stayed at the hotel above the market and rode the sea bus into town. It was cold! Definitely a beautiful place though!
