Question for the other North American birders: is it just me, or are there a lot more cedar waxwings around this year? I'm seeing them all over the place, and normally I see them (or notice them) only in spring migration.

Well to be honest this my first year really "birding" so prior to this I didn't know what a cedar waxwing was. I can tell you I'm on the west coast of Vancouver Island and there must be 6-10 of them in my backyard at any given point right now.

Not sure. The other day I looked out our living room window and saw about 25 different birds out there just gong nuts! Some I only see during migration like the wrens and warblers. Some I've never seen before! Not sure if there were some exotic buggies out there or why they were all there, but it was great! Even had three juvie bluebirds flitting around. So cute! We also have an indigo bunting around, I've only seen one one other time a few years ago so I am excited to have him around!

Here's a bad photo of a few of the birds. I only have up to 50mm right now so it's fuzzy and a heavy crop!

lots of birds photo - gardengirl13 photos at pbase.com

in this photo there is a catbird, a mating pair of goldfinches, a juvie bluebird and an oriole!

Here is the bird I'm not sure of, maybe some kind of warbler, he's on the fence facing away from the camera.
some kind of warbler maybe? photo - gardengirl13 photos at pbase.com

hard to tell from the size of the pic, but I'd lean towards a flycatcher.

We get them all the time in Ottawa ( north-east ), but I hear them far more than I see them.

There are two birds on the fence. And I'm so sorry It's only with the 50mm! I really wish I could handle the weight of the 100-300 I'd buy it in a heartbeat! But the one on the right is a pheobe the one on the left is the one I'm not sure of. It's got a yellow body (the underside and chest) and brown wings and upper side of the body. We do get yellow rumped warblers and yellow warblers, but this one doesn't quite look like either. There were about 4 of them flying around the gardens.
