lovely shots; are they some shaggy ink caps I spy?

I seem to be spotting more and more mushrooms this year for some reason...

Thanks! I now have to confess I know zilch about mushrooms , I just happen to love the colours and shapes they come in and I've decided that I'd try to shoot some (with a camera that is) this autumn. According to Wikipedia it's probably a Coprinus Comatus indeed, although I'd happily leave that call to someone else .

Some from last weekend. No interesting ones today, maybe mushroom time is over.

Cracking shots,

most recent one I've snapped is this one that had been kicked and had it's stem broken.

Also, might I ask which lens you used? I myself shot the above with the Panny 20/1.7 which isn't ideal, but was all I had to hand.

Hi, all pics shown here have been shot with a 100mm macro legacy lens, the Minolta MD Macro 100/4. Any other decent macro 50...100mm lens will do, I guess. I prefer 100mm because I like the distant perspective it produces. Mushrooms don't move a lot, so a manual focus legacy lens is perfectly suitable and a whole lot cheaper than a native µ4/3 macro lens like the Panny 45/2.8.

I should mention as well that I use a tripod that can be positioned at low height and that I have to crouch to do the composition, which is a bit cumbersome given my age of 57 . The GH2's tilt and swivel LCD is a big bonus here, especially for vertical shots. Good luck!

Next weekend I won't have time to go on mushroom hunt, I'm afraid there won't be a lot to shoot after that.
