See, there is the issue when I need purity of sound....
I don't need complex and interesting...I just need the Message.....
complex and interesting would be Pink Floyd....actually that's not a bad idea if I say so myself....thanks...

There are real masterpieces in the medieval and renaissance era. Look for names such as Josquin, Monteverdi, Gesualdo, Busnoys, etc. And don't forget the troubadours and trouveres.

Gregorian chants are nice and all, but music did get more interesting and complex (and in my opinion, better) in the upcoming centuries. I don't like how the Gregorian chants are bastardized to be the new "new age" thing now.

As for me, listening to some Bruckner Symphonies.

what is this "Message," that you have so conspicously capitalized?
if you need purity of sound, sine tones might suit you better

pink floyd is a good band but cannot compare to the complexity and art of the romantic, classical, renaissance, or even medieval masters

Here's the thing....I'm 61 and I know what I need to listen to at any time. I have a vast library of music. I probably have 4000+ cd's that I kept....so I know what I want to hear. It may not be what you want me to hear but I'm gonna listen to it anyway cause I can.

The message is...the Soothing of the Soul. There exist a connection between the Soul and the Spiritual Planes. Sometimes Gregorian Chant opens that door for me, sometimes Native American Music does it...and sometimes Mozart. Ya know, Muddy Waters gets me there anytime I listen to him....

So we should never compare anything against anything on This Green Earth. We should accept everything as equal and just Love it for what it's worth.

I may be a Nam Vet...but I was also a Hippie.....
Thanked by Vidar, elandel and richiebee.

On a mammoth 18 hour drive back from two weeks in Tuscany the car was full of various Dylan bootlegs, Miles Davis, Gang of Four, Nina Simone, Nick Drake, Carol King, Neu, The Teardrop Explodes and other stuff I can't remember.

Switzerland was basically a traffic jam and I discovered the joys of sciatic pain :)

Next year it's a fly-drive...
Thanked by BBW.

Poor you on the driving and the sciatic pain, but I hope that two weeks in Tuscany was wonderful and that just maybe you'll show us some photos, Paul. (Hint hint.)
