After spending some time on Amin's other sites and on DPR today I think I have figured out the problem. This place is big enough and active enough to generate lots of good discussion and info, but not so big or unwieldy (or full of jerks) to make it annoying. So, some folks are branching out to other systems, maybe more so than ever before, but wanting to stay around here to discuss them. Me included.

Serious Compacts and Talk NEX are kind of quiet. Maybe they should all be combined under one tent with brand/format sections. Basically like DPR Forums but with moderation and the jerk-filter still in place. Whaddya think Amin, would one bigger web site be better for you? :)
