A couple weekends ago, just as I was beginning the drive back from Buena Vista, CO to Chicago, a storm rolled in over the Collegiate Peaks, and I stopped and snagged this shot:

EPL1 + 14-150mm, polarizing filter, handheld, 3 exposures
Thanked by Luke, fin azvandi, Kevin and 2 others.

Here is one of my first attempts at HDR.
G3 with 14-40 kit lens. Composed of 7 bracketed images in Photomatix

Thanked by Kevin, SeveNx7 and twokatmew.

I have generally not liked my own attempts at HDR, though I like what many people have done with it. Mostly I have been using it more to bring out a greater dynamic range in my pictures more so than creating a spectacular photo.

This is the one shot where I felt it helped was this one where it let me bring up the shadow detail while tamping down the burn out on the sunlit areas.

Thanked by twokatmew.

The additional benefit of tonemapping, and it's apparent in your image, is the enhancement of local contrast, which makes details more apparent. (I assume that the detail was pulled up in the process of HDR processing, and not through separate application of local contrast adjustment.)

Nice processing work.

Yes, your assumption is correct. And thank you.
