I think they are on a ship on their way here, perhaps they airfreighted a few but the majority are probably container shipped and hopefully will be arriving in the next few weeks.

Exactly, I pre ordered from my local shop in Canada and still managed to get it around the same time as B&H got theirs

Support your local independent dealer. Amazon and the other big boys are for the masses. They should not get the first batch of new product - early adopters should seek out specialists.

Personally, I tend to run one generation behind because that gets me stuff with a proven track record and a lot more value for my money. I miss out on having the latest and greatest - that's my choice.

In Kansas City, we don't have any indie dealers that carry Olympus. We have a Ritz/Wolf and they are a little inept. I put in a pre-order through them after the Amazon thing went weird, even thought I really didn't want to have two pre-orders going. I do agree with you, for what it's worth!

The E-M5 has the largest number of preorders of any Olympus camera in its range. In particular, it's had many more preorders than the E-P1 which was the most heavily preordered Olympus m4/3 until now. Moreover, what they really don't want is to misinterpret pent-up demand for continuous demand and overproduce. That's how they end up with stores that 3 years later still have E-P1s on their shelves.

I don't think the west is a number one priority for Olympus. It's a big market for sure, but nothing like Asia. It used to be that the big new releases were done in America. Now they're done in Hong Kong and Singapore. The EM-5 and m4/3 in general is a huge hit in much of Asia. If demand exceeded supply there, some of the North American stock will be diverted to them.

Your silver EM-5 kit with the 12-50 is currently being enjoyed by some nice guy in Seoul. Maybe he can send you some pictures.

Please don't think that all is rosey here in Asia. I'm an American living in China, and have missed several opportunities for someone to bring my camera over because my order hasn't shipped from J&R, Olympus, or Amazon yet.

They have it here, black kits with the 12-50, available now for ~$1600 USD....ugh it's tempting but I'm trying to hold out hope on J&R:
(1300-5%)+free flash = more money for lenses later

I need a tattoo of that or at least a Post-It stuck to my computer monitor!!

I cancelled my pre-order, called my local camera store, told me they had two bodies in stock, I asked them to put it on hold and rushed to pick up my camera. Way easier!

No such option here, unfortunately - I've got the camera in preorder from my local camera store (or electronics superstore, actually). Still waiting, but Finland is a tiny market...

It could be that some of us are waiting til we actually NEED a new camera, and are waiting to see what happens in the marketplace. I have an EPL-1, with a type I lens. Is it obsolete ? Maybe Does it work ? Yeah. Can I afford to buy every new camera that hits the market ? Hell no !
I am currently booked to take a cruise that originates in italy next year. I'm sure by then my any shortcomings the OM-D has will be corrected, twice over, and I'll upgrade.
Or, I'll buy the EP-12
