Default Why do people update firmware when it has nothing new they want?

It can lead to problems you don't currently have. I'll only update if forced or if the new firmware offers something I really need.

Thanks, but I've set my video mode to only use M... it does some weird stuff when it's not set that way. (I don't have bracketing turned on, and I don't think it would affect video anyways. I've not had any issues with still photos, only video).

The real credibility gap here is Harvey Norman ... I avoid them at all costs!

Poor service and lack of back up for what they sell are hallmarks of that company IMO. One particular fairly high priced item I got from them was giving me some trouble shortly after the purchase ... their response:

"I dunno mate ... contact the manufacturer!"

There are few Harvery Normans around which stock only few cameras.I am buying from another Harvey Norman which is selling this OMD for 1199 with 12-50 mm lens .

That's a very good price as I thought I did OK at $1337 from DigiDirect.

I got my E-M5 with the 12-50 from CameraPro in Brisbane for $1265.

Bhupinder, I'll try and get to a local Harvey Norman up here tomorrow or Wednesday and see whether they're still selling the E-M5 and what they're saying.

Before we wipe Harvey Norman off the list I would like to say the store where I live is brilliant. They have a huge range of photographic gear and lenses along with a dedicated camera booth with a very knowledgeable guy in attendance. When I visited, the camera guys in the store had just caught up to speed regarding the OM-D from an Olympus Rep.

They even gave me a brand new class 10 16GB card for free as a bonus with the purchase of my camera.

Obviously it's the people in the store that make it what it is. So please don't discredit them just from your experience.

You're assuming that manufacturers are candid about what they've fixed when they publicize the firmware update. There may well be fixes that aren't disclosed that would be beneficial.

I would check for a lens update.
I had a lockup with my Panasonic 45-200 and when I plugged in the OM_D to read the images (I don't have a UHS-I card reader) I found there was an update for the lens but not the camera.

Well they aren't getting mine back. My OMD has performed perfectly from day one without so much as a burp. Got the grip on there as well. Installed 1.2 firmware in one minute without a hitch. Either I have a freak unit or am just blessed. Either way I'm good to go no issues.
Thanked by Bhupinder2002.
