Maybe in terms of DR, but there is significant difference in NR (aka smudging) on JPEGs from Panasonic vs the Oly ones.

To the OP: I think it would be a waste to have tried a latest gen camera and give it up for something not quite as good just because you got a faulty one.

X100 looks good and takes pretty good photos, but it's nowhere near as flexible as the E-M5. And then if you're going to use RAW at one point, Fuji's files are not as compatible as everyone else's.

I'm beginning to think I made a mistake but it's done. I had planned to get a DSLR to go with it but may wait and see what Panny brings out at Photokina and when Olympus gets cameras and batteries actually available.

Tex... I think you did fine and the choice will allow you to stay in the format and begin the discovery of m4/3 with a fresh start. I think you'll keep a foot in the format and add more gear to the G3 as time goes along. It's a great camera to explore m4/3 with... with a surprisingly low entry fee at this point. As you explore more of the awesome lenses in this system you'll come to appreciate it even more.

Think the 45 Oly and the 20/1.7 Panny are probably a good start. If I had followed my guy and got the OM-D body only and added the 45 to begin with I probably would never have left.

After using the G3 and the OM-D side-by-side in a lab, I heretofore pronounce, without nary shadow of a doubt, that they both are indeed....wait for it....wait.....cameras.

Please hold your applause until the end.
Thanked by DHart and jmschwartz.
