Anyway, I'm going away tomorrow for a few days and want a camera. It can go in for fixing after that.

I think I'm in the same boat, tried YN-462 and even FL-36 on hot shoe, both would not flash while the FL-LM2 flashes just fine. Seriously I think Olympus needs to look into this.
