I heard news that it will be a big overhaul for the Pens from a friend who works at olympus (she said that it is closer to the EM5 line as opposed to the EP line)... I don't know how trustworthy her news is though...

Speaking of the high-end Pen camera, is it too much to have an external flash unit? Having the external flash fitted to my E-M5 is much less of a trouble than having the VF-2 on my Pen.

The Pen Mini is to small for both an internal flash and a hotshoe. But the next Pen Lite should have an internal flash IMO.

I would be happy to swap my E-PL3 for an E-PLx which upgrades the sensor and leaves the other features as is. Of course, the 5-axis IBIS would be welcome as well.

Perhaps there may be a third line, which is Pen style, yet with built in EVF and no hump... like the NEX. Same sensor and IBIS as the E-M5 and priced similarly to it, yet offering the styling variation for those who prefer that look.

Surprising that Olympus camera division is charging forward strongly (E-M5 and new lenses) in light of all the talk about financial scandals and apparently operating at a loss.

It makes sense to look upon it not as Pen vs OM lines but market segments instead:
  1. Entry level, alternative to P&S : Pen Mini
  2. Hobbyist market, lifestyle oriented users : Pen Lite
  3. Serious enthusiast, semi-pro, a lot of pro applications : E-P5 and E-M5
  4. Pro market : Future OM-D, i.e. E-M7

Forgot to mention lightweight alloy construction for the high end Pen. A E-M5 in Pen clothing, all in all. Also, there can never be a pro level Pen, if features such as dual memory cards, extensive weather sealing, etc, are to be implemented. The format isn't appropriate in size/style.

Well, it's grow or die, I suppose... and in any case, keep walking.

As much as I like the style of my E-P3, ever since I got the E-M5, I find the E-P3 to be the odd-man-out due to its size. Carrying both the E-M5 and the E-P3 just takes up too much space. I now use the E-M5 as my primary and my E-PL3 as my backup. I'd love to see the next E-PL_ to retain its small form factor, but perhaps switch to the same sized display as the E-M5 (one of my major complains for the E-PL3 is the small screen in 4:3 ratio), and have the same sensor as the E-M5. I would be very happy to swap my E-PL3 for it...

I'd like all PEN's to have three control wheels for direct access to A/S/E+- and other combinations. Just look at the new enthousiast compact cameras.
Seriously, are there any people out there that choose for an ILC system over the compacts but do not care for manual control?

Olympus could also to have the SCP on by default. Then they can market their products to those customers who will enjoy their products most and are most likely to buy into the entire system.

(I write this because I hope somebody from Olympus reads this forum. Control wheels くださいます (kudasaimasu)?)

+1. These are the main things that would make me upgrade to a new PEN. Sure the other features on the EM-5 are great and very useful to a lot of people, but personally I do not need weather sealing or all the control wheels (I can mange just fine with an E-P3 setup in that respect), so to keep the cost down as much as possible stick to these two changes, would suit me just fine!

I agree on the sensor and OLED tilt screen, great new tech, indeed!

But, how much could it possibly cost them to add a few turn knobs?
