I haven't seen somebody ask this but there is an access door (rubber) that you move out of the way to put your cable when you transfer your photos. From the pictures, the L-plate might be blocking that rubber door? I never remove my sd card and just use the cable when transferring so to me that is important. I just want to get you view on that...tnx.

from what i can tell, the L-Plate end will block access to the usb connector.

thanks Jim...bummer that it can't be accessed. :(

In the future, do you think you will be making a basic grip model that has the full length of the camera? The base on the current model looks like it was cut short for some reason. thanks!

I'm going to guess excess material? It sits fine on it's own as is if that is what you're worried about. Not if you have a huge/long lens on, but that would be an issue regardless.

i understand the functionality is there..it is more on the aesthetics that I'm concerned about...it is a beautiful and functional cam...i want to put a functional and a decent looking grip if I have a choice if you know what i mean :)

the base for the combo is full length; so that might be what you need, you could always remove the L-end plate if it didn't appeal to you.

I suppose on a case-by case basis, I could sell the combo less the end plate for a bit less.

pricing this stuff is tricky, since you have to build in something to cover your development time and effort and wild guess at total volume, which affects production methods.
Thanked by dhazeghi.

The new grips with a pin for a hand strap look good. My only hesitation at this point concerns the possible inability to put an RC2 quick release plate on the bottom of the basic grip without having to remove the handgrip to do so (or else the RC2 plate will sit on top of the handgrip strap). The idea of a relief on the section of the bottom plate between the pin and battery door sounds like it could work. Or, the pin could be moved towards the battery door and the piece of bottom plate between the pin and battery door could be completely eliminated rather than having a relief made in it.

In any event, nice work and it's good to have an option other than the pricey OEM grip.

Might have considered this, but preordered the RRS L-plate, and they are adding a grip section as well. Competition is good! Tripod use is more important to me than horizon or portrait grip-only.

Jim, the "case by case" solution seems more logical since some people would not want to pay for the full combo price just to get the full length base and then remove the L-plate.

I'm actually interested in this set up if you can come up with reasonable price. Also, you might have to round/bevel the end where the L-plate will come off in order for it to be snag free. Let me know. Thanks for working with us on this. These grips are gaining more interest day by day.

Some good news....
Just found out today that RRS will be making the grip, base plate and L-plate for the OM-D :)...will make two versions...one black and one silver.

Here is the link:BOEM5 Set: Base + L-Plate + Grip (black) - BOEM5-Set - Kit Configuration Page)

BTW, Jim from RRS confirmed with me that the L-plate will not block the rubber door for the USB connection and such...
