Coming from a D-LUX5 the shutter sounds awfully loud to me. Walking past people on the street, taking photos from two yards away, nobody's noticed. So it can't be all that loud.
I am however still getting to grips with the camera, particularly for street photography. The face detection is awful, it's managed to focus on one face out of around 200 attempts, so I'm reliant on it understanding where I want it focussed.
If I'm able to stop then it's no problem, the touch screen is superb for choosing which element in the picture should be in focus. If I'm taking a photo as I walk past (which is the case for over half the street shots I take) then its hit rate isn't too great so far. I've had a fair few blurred people walking past beautifully crisp walls.
More of an issue for me is that I'm shooting with a lens that only opens to f3.5. Even with OIS I'm getting blur.
That's partly because the camera makes interesting choices. It's happy to stick at 1/60s and will close the aperture or choose a slower ISO rather than speed up the shutter. A slower ISO is never a bad thing, but I'm finding myself shooting in AP so that I can keep it at f3.5.
I may need to invest in a new lens, but the 20/1.7 is too long, the 14/2.5 is too slow (to be worth an upgrade) and the alternates are all too big to fit in my pocket. So I'm waiting on the 17/1.8 to be available in stores, where I can attach it to the camera and see if it still fits in my pocket. Although since it's the same length (in physical size) as the 12/2 I should probably go and test that one now.
I want a 14mm f1.4 pancake. With OIS in case I buy a Panny body in the future. I doubt such a lens will ever be released :)
