Grrrrr....I'm jeolous, LOL

This camera came out about a month after I purchased my pen. I held it in the store just too see if I liked the grip better, and I do. I'm not as wild about the buttons though. The control wheels on the pen are quick and easy.

One thing I don't like about it is the minimum shutter speed. It can't go down to 1/4000 of a second, can it?

That's what we would use a 2 stop ND filter for. I happen to have acquired one for just that purpose just in case the sun is intense. They are cute at 40.5mm I must say, as I also have step rings for conversion to my standard 52mm as well. Either way the 1/2000th is no deal breaker.

Interestingly, DJ, I much prefer the E-PL1's button because I was always inadvertently changing the controls on the E-P2's. I think it's a combination of "what one is familiar with" and "different strokes for different folks".

Graham, I'm afraid have never tried to do what you're asking so can't help you out with your question

I'm assuming you've read the manual? I haven't bothered on the section that deals with "Bulb Mode" as of yet.

Default shooting in Bulb Mode

Graham, I just took a quick look at the E-PL1's manual on page 39 and it does explain it very well with some extra tips to fine tune its use. Check it out.

At first, I was doing this on the Pen. It was too easy to change the focus mode or even ISO when changing a setting.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably have gotten the EPL1. I wasn't even an earlier adopter of the pen...and poof..new camera.

I don't have one yet, I'm thinking about buying one, but just found out that there is no provision for remote control. So with the camera set to BULB how do you open and close the shutter without introducing shake by keeping your finger on the shutter release.

Well, DJ, that is unfortunately the nature often with cameras and computers...always something new. I think you do very well with your Pen. I was not as comfortable with my E-P2 and the timing was right and the moon was in the Seventh House...and all that sort of thing.

I've found an E-PL1 manual on line and it seems that the shutter is only able to be held open in BULB mode, by keeping a finger on the shutter button. (p39)

Why on earth have they made a model with no remote control ?

Or at least give it the capability to lock the shutter open without having to hold it open

Graham, isn't there a 3rd party (radio) remote trigger which connects via the USB port? I've seen one used with an Oly DSLR, maybe it's compatible with the Pen?

Cheers

Brian
