Default E-M5 at ISO 6400 - Where's all the noise?

I went to lunch with a couple of friends today and, of course, my E-M5 came along too. I took this picture to test for myself the high ISO capabilities of the camera. Considering it was hand held, 1/15th sec @ f4.8, ISO 6400 with no noise filter, I think it did pretty well. I've printed it at A4 and although it is not the same quality you would get from ISO 400 or less it is nevertheless more than acceptible in my opinion.

Thanked by hanzo, Armanius, dixeyk and 9 others.

Wow! I'm also amazed at the range of colors and DR . . . doesn't look anything like a high-ISO image on my old PM1!

+1. The E-M5's ability to maintain colour and dynamic range even at higher ISOs really is impressive.

Impressive! I have only pushed the E-M5 to ISO3200 so far, but your image makes me want to test it out at ISO6400, too!

The high ISO capability is one of the two things that sold me on getting rid of my Canon 40D and lenses and going strictly MFT. The other was the AF speed.

With my EM5, I don't even think about what the ISO setting is any more. I have the upper limit in auto set to 6400 and I almost never notice any noise at all.

That would be the same for me too.

Not too shabby at all.

p.s. Your friend has a vampire bite on his forearm. Thought you might want to know.

Great & thanks for sharing.

I've set my ISO at 3200. Will reset limit to 6400 & try out.
