I have owned and used a 17mm since having my first M43 body 2 years ago. I have taken thousands of shots with this lens that came with the original kit. The FOW is ideal and the lens is reasonably sharp. Great for street photography and group / shots. The results seems different to the pany 14 / 20 in the final output. I have never used either of these lens so I can only compare from the many photos on this site and others.

As much as I would like to "upgrade" to something sharper with a similar FOW (20mm) I keep holding off in the hope that either the 17mm will be upgraded to something a little sharper and faster, or the 20mm mark 2 with quicker focus will be released.

I might consider getting that updated 17mm, but I'll never part with the Panasonic 20 f1.7. Some pieces of glass you just end up loving.

I love the 20mm as well... but i don't know if i can justify the cost of keeping two lenses that are 3mm focal length(well, technically 6mm) apart. aside from that, i love the lens

I loved the Oly 17mm when I had it. It was the greatest value at the time for a prime lens. Though with the recent price drops in the Panny 14mm, I couldn't justify not replacing the Oly lens.

I think the 17mm is really a very strong focal length, this is what sets it apart from the 20mm and 14mm lenses.

17mm is definitely a better focal for street shoot, I owned 14, 17, 20 and now only have 14 and 17mm with 25mm replace 20mm, I use 14mm for UW and fisheye adapter and 17mm for general shoot.

[The 20 but I don't have a 14 to use for comparison. Just curious about the difference. Thanks![/QUOTE]

Steve Huff posted some intriguing pictures comparing the 17mm and 14mm.

I had the 20 but sold to finance my aquisition of the PL25. Still wish I had it. Something along the 17mm focal length would be more useful now, but I'd only pick it up at a bargain price given its resolution.
