It is an expensive lens and I've pretty much busted my wallet for while making this purchase. Its pretty hard making money in this side of the world using m43 format for portrait, would really have to use dslr. Some of my photography needs distance between subject and this FL works well for me. I'm also more of a prime shooter. The value of this lens will really depend on the user's preference. The panny 12-35 cost $1300 here and I've heard the 35-100 will be priced around $1500, for me that's very expensive but if I really needed those types of lenses I would have no choice but pay the premium price for it. I think that as long as we could justify the price, then we'll feel the purchase was worth it.
Sometimes, just the words, "because I wanted it", is sufficient reason to purchase camera stuff.

Tempted as I am by this awesome lens, my recent experience with the wonderful 12-35/2.8 makes me pause on picking up this one in lieu of the 35-100/2.8, which is likely to do about as well and be more versatile. Of course, I may succumb to the lure of them both - funding from sales of my Canon FF gear, which I'm finally ready to part with.

Alright just got home, snapped on the lens and here's a pic of it on my E-M5 (shot by iPhone)

Took a shot of my cat with the lens wide open, ISO 1600, RAW and processed in LR 4.1. Only adjusted the WB.

This lens is very sharp wide open. I'll post more pics once I really get to shoot with it this weekend.

After a month or so with the OMD, I made the decision to part with my Nikon FF gear. Basically all of my M43 stuff have been funded by selling off my FF gear. I don't regret making the full move to M43 and though there will always be differences between both formats, I'm doing more photography these days because my gear is much lighter to carry around.
Thanked by DHart, mister_roboto and slith.

How do you find the handling without the grip? Is it too hard to hold? I have the 25mm f0.95 on it without grip and I think it is ok, but it does get a bit tired after a while. I think the 25mm is a bit heavier than the 75mm.

The only time I'm comfortable using the camera without the grip is when I have the 12mm f2.0 or 45mm f1.8 on it. When those lenses are on, the balance feels very good. I started using 25mm f0.95 before my grip arrived and it was very tiring after a while. Also, having big hands makes the experience even more tiring. The 75mm f1.8 is 25% lighter than the 25mm f0.95 but without the grip it still kinda feels a little head-heavy. For me the horizontal grip is a must have and makes a big difference when using heavier lenses. I can shoot all day and not feel tired because of the extra comfort.
Thanked by mister_roboto.

Can't wait until mine gets here. B&H is saying they expect stock on the 20th, so hopefully my pre-order will ship on (or slightly before) then. Unfortunately, since that's a Friday, I probably won't get the lens till the following Tuesday, but I guess I'll survive. :)
