Yohan... yes, I can see the utility of the 12-50, for sure. That's a great range and the close up capability is pretty good... for such a lens. If the 12-50's IQ was better, it would be a contender for me - mostly for the longer range. But personally, I place a higher priority in the IQ and the faster, constant aperture than I do on the longer range and larger magnification for close-ups.
Most times, if I'm going to go to the trouble to 'create' images (rather than just 'take' snapshots) I want to make sure the result gives me higher levels of image quality. Therefore, for the most part, I don't plan to buy any lenses, particularly zooms, which don't come in with relatively high levels of optical performance - even if that means sacrificing longer zoom ranges or the occasionally useful close-up capability. Fortunately, we now have -or soon will have- a number of zoom lenses which offer -or promise- awesome optical capability (Pany 7-14, 12-35, 35-100, etc.)
Other people's priorities may be very different from my own, and these two lenses (12-35 and 12-50) each offer something good for someone.
Thankfully, we now have two decent zooms that start at 12mm. I've never been happy with 14mm as the wide end of a general use zoom.
