Knowing myself, I probably will hang on to the 45/1.8 after getting the 75. I tend to hold onto a lot of gear, even if it rarely gets used. And there clearly are different applications for the 75/1.8 and the 45/1.8 that, for some, would warrant having both.

Sadly, I actually cancelled my 75mm pre-order cause I thought long and hard about it...and as much as I would love another beauty in my arsenal...

...since I have the 45mm and just got the 12-35mm, I really want to wait to see what Photokina brings and more importantly, the release date of the 35-100mm...

...that being said, I am pretty sure I will get the 75mm for the holidays or early 2013...

I canceled my order for the 75mm as well. I wanted to get the 12-35mm, 35-100 and 60mm macro first. I do think the 45mm, 25mm, and a 75mm can coexist even in combination with the zooms. Sure they may not be used a lot, but I find that I want the right tool when it is needed. I also wanted to see whether there is a fast 100mm or 150mm prime announced at Photokina. That would interest me even more than the 75. I will eventually pick one up as it is seems to be a terrific lens.

I lucked into a 75mm last week; it got here Friday and I was able to shoot with it yesterday. No serious work yet, just a few shots of the girlfriend and some chickens. (But for what it's worth, chickens make great portrait subjects. They're very tolerant )

In the shot of my girlfriend, the focus actually locked on her glasses instead of her eyes. I'll have to be careful of that in the future.

This lens is a portrait-shooters dream; I can't wait to do an actual shoot with it. It is very sharp and the its ability to separate the subject from the background is just amazing. I find I like the focal length, too. It feels pretty natural, at least to me (where by comparison, the 45mm lenses always feel a little too short).

These have had post work - I some film-emulation presets in ACR, so the colors and contrast have been tweaked. But they are seriously sharp and good looking even SOOC.
