Default Panasonic 100-300mm Wobble

Hi, I just purchased (from B&H) a Panny 100-300mm for my GH2.

If I zoom to 300mm and grab end of the barrel of the lens, I can move it back-and-forth (i.e. at right angles to the lens) maybe a millimeter or two. In other words, the zoom extension is very slightly wobbly (a technical term ). The lens seems to work okay, but maybe it could be better?

Is this normal? Or should I be requesting an RMA?

Thanks,
...Jerry

Hello;

I have a Nikon 55-200VR that behaves the same way. Without seeing the lens it's hard for me to say why this is happening. If you are uncomfortable with the lens, please call Customer Service and set up an RMA. I wouldn't want you to keep anything you are not happy with.

I just got a 100-300 in the mail. If I try to wobble it, I can feel it wobble, but not see it move. Very similar to my Oly 40-150. Not sure if that helps at all.

Okay, I'm still in a dilemna. I made a short video of the issue. Does this help?

Thanks,

Whoops! Clicked the wrong security checkbox on YouTube. See if the video plays now.

What Luke said, but at any rate, looks like my 100-300.

The 100-300 I reviewed did that too. I think it's normal.
Thanked by amendegw.

You guys are great! I've done quite a bit of video in the past several years (camcorders w/ internal lenses). However, this is the first interchangeable Zoom lens I've used in the past 30 years - just wanted to make sure everything is okay while I'm in the return period.
