Hi there! I'm from Poland where we have strong strobist community on our Nikon forum. This is one of my first strobing shots outdoors:

Nikon D90 + Tamron 17-55 f/2.8 One YN-460 II on left via transp umbrella on left as main and same kit on right as fill light.

I am a big fan of strobist lighting! Most of my work these days is Canon, but when I started, it was with Oly 4/3rds. I still have, love, and abuse the FL-50R speedlight :) Here are a couple with the ol' E3:

Just a shot of my lighting from last night

Some flash wave IIIs, a 580 with large white glass bulb and a Jusino travel tripod.

Here is an example from Hong Kong, but most big suppliers have them:

But if you're hooking up studio strobes (or older speedlights), then you'll want to use a Safe Sync which steps down the voltage, not just a regular hotshoe adapter...
safe sync | eBay

*EDIT: Oops, sorry... just realized I was responding to an old page.

TDP,
From where did you purchase that glass bulb on top of the 580?
