I use the Fn1 button for dof preview while shooting and have no problem. My hands are not large, however.

What an excellent review -- the reviewer says he wouldn't buy the product (for fairly specific reasons) but still gives a balanced and honest appraisal of it's strengths & weaknesses.

FWIW; when I went mu-43 last year I chose Panasonic over Olympus precisely because the Pen series cameras felt too small in the hands for this particular ham-fisted film SLR user!

Thank you for all your comments, guys! Much appreciated.

To all those for whom the Fn1 button isn't an issue: I envy you The way I see it there are two ways in which this button might not be a problem:
  1. Your hands/fingers are the appropriate shape for the button and thumb grip.
  2. You use this button for a function that is not used for every frame and/or it doesn't require speedy use and/or you're not pressing it while the camera is to your face.
Because I need to focus for practically every shot, and because maybe half my shots are taken through the EVF, the Fn1 just didn't work for me. I remember seeing a preproduction model of the E-M5 where the Fn1 and Play buttons were reversed, and I think I might have liked that configuration better.

LOL! Hey Amin and Chuck! Thanks for the greetings! Dropped by to peek at the great review Miserere wrote! Now back to the wedding prep and resisting temptation to buy the 12-35!

Great review from a real world user's perspective, and a shame that the camera didn't work out for in the end. I guess that I should be thankful that I've never found a need to use back button AF!

One question: in the 'pros' you list 'auto ISO in M mode'. Is there a way to turn that on? Or Did I miss a firmware upgrade that provides this? Auto is greyed out in M mode on my E-M5.
It's been a few weeks since I returned the camera but I seem to remember that you have to enable it in one of the custom menus. Of course, once it's enabled, doesn't mean it's on all the time (as some people think); you can still set a fixed ISO, but you also have the option of having Auto ISO when you wish to shoot with a fixed aperture and shutter speed.

Great review. Interesting how everybody's different; I found the thumb-grip an amazingly useful and obvious feature.
I have big hands, too, and found the camera a little small at first, but the (overpriced) battery grip makes it a different camera.
Overall (with the grip) I found the OMD the most transparent digital camera I've used. All my other m4/3 cameras are sold, as well as most of my dlsrs, except for 2 for use with long lenses and fast-moving subjects.
Try the grip!

A very good review...
I really liked mine very much, its a clever well designed camera. Even the menu system is quite good. That 12-50mm lens is one of the best kit lenses I have ever come across, shame I don't have it any more some miserable _ _ _ _ _ smashed his way into my house stole all my equipment plus a whole lot more Body Serial # BEM501275 lens Serial # ABP236734 If any one happens to come across this please let me know. I have registered it with Stolen Camera Finder - find your photos, find your camera
