City of Sping and Laos Bound!

Posted February 1st, 2010 at 11:35 PM by BlairMacKay

So today is our last day in Kunming. We are heading to Laos this evening! We spent the last few days getting stuff together, relaxing, and getting Marina's visa. It is pretty exciting, I have never been to Laos, and this is Marinas first trip outside of China.

Kunming is a really great city. It is clean, and it feels like it is always springtime. There are flowers here all year round and everything is green. It would be a great city to live in. We spent most of our days tinkering

More Terraces, and a Small Town

Posted January 28th, 2010 at 09:58 PM by BlairMacKay

Hi all, this is the second post on Yuanyang, featuring some different terrace shots and a small town we visited. The last shot was taken from the roof of our hotel on the day we left Yuanyang. It was sad to leave such a beautiful and enchanting spot... but it had to be done. It is one place I definetly have to see agian!

We are in Kunming now, going to take it easy for a couple of days. We need to plan what to do next... Right now we are thinking about heading into Loas for

Yuanyang... Enough said

Posted January 27th, 2010 at 07:45 AM by BlairMacKay

I made it back to the blog... finally and finished uploading the Panda pictures! They were really beautiful animals and it was nice to see them up and about instead of sleeping.

So to update the trip, we left Kunming and headed down to the Rice terraces in YuanYang. Yuanyang is a mountainous area in Southern Yunnan, and because there is no flat land they were forced to carve rice terraces into the mountains. The Hani ethnic group resides in this area and they have been carving out

Well we went to see the Giant and Red Pandas in Chengdu, and it was pretty great. Pandas were always my favourite animals and it was a real treat to see them up close. We went to the breeding center at around 8:30 so we were there just in time for feeding. This is the only part of the day where the pandas are active. the rest of the day they are sleeping.

Anyways, I am pressed for time now. We are in Kunming now and are catching a bus to the extreme rice terracing in the south. So

I love Yangshuo

Hi all, we are having some torrential rain here in Yangshuo so I will use this down time to add to the blog. To update, we left the big cities behind and flew to the south of China for some beautiful scenery. We are in Guanxi province now, and it is famous for the limestone hills (karsts) that seem to pop out of ground.

The scenery here is absolutely stunning. I have been here before last May but it still takes my breath away. We started of in the city of Guilin, than moved to the

Xian: A city in a cloud

Posted January 20th, 2010 at 08:21 AM by BlairMacKay

First off, sorry for the late entry. Had a travel day to get to Guilin, and than my computer decided to stop working. No worries though, I managed to get Lightroom installed and upgraded on Marina's computer, so everything is back and working!

Anyways, enough with the excuses. So Xian, it is an interesting city to say the least. As some of you might know it was Chinas ancient capital during the days of the silk road. It has lots and lots of history... but most of that has been destroyed.

Posted January 16th, 2010 at 08:37 PM by BlairMacKay
Updated January 17th, 2010 at 04:14 AM by BlairMacKay

Hi all, long time no post. We arrived in Xian two nights ago, and spent our first day at the Terracotta Warriors. Before writing about that I'll wrap up our time in Beijing.

The Great Wall... Everyone's heard about it and and everyones seen pictures. It is one of the famous historic sites in the world, and the only man-made structure that can be seen from space.

Big boots to fill, but let me say, it did not disappoint. It truly is magnificent, and even better

Updated January 15th, 2010 at 07:38 PM by BlairMacKay

Hi all this is a feature I wanted too do for days when I am to busy to write a full blog. Its called "3 pics and a quote", basically it is a quote (famous or not) followed by three pictures that relate to the quote. This could be an obvious relationship, like today, or not.

Anyways, we went to the Great Wall yesterday and it was Great. More on that in my next post. So here are the quote and pics:

"He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man"- Mao Zedong
